Karen Harman’s Vision for the Modern Woman

Posted by: Roy Wilbur

Karen Harman ’70 (fb @karenharmanny and ig @karenharmannewyork) is the Founder, CEO, and design director of KAREN HARMAN INC, a contemporary cusp brand of womenswear. Born in Philadelphia, Harman attended Moore College of Art & Design, winning several national design competitions, including Young America Creates, and upon graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a design career.

Her vision of the modern woman – “in motion, negotiating her day with passion, humor and intelligence” – has positively influenced previous design positions she has held at Christian Dior, Dana Buchman, and Ellen Tracy.

Starting her own brand, in 2013, Harman gave voice to the eclectic, inventive, highly individualized way that women dress today.

In 2015, she launched KAREN HARMAN CHEMISE, a collection of menswear-tailored shirts for women.

“I love the fact that women have become more confident about themselves, about their choices, about their futures,” Harman says. “Their passion has become mine.”
